CASANUNA MONTHLY NEWS

New to international travel? First trip to Mexico? Worried about what will happen at the airport? Don't speak spanish? Don't know what to expect, what to do, or where to go? Let's take away some of that apprehension and mystery about a trip to Puerto Escondido. No worries.....It's fun. Just ask the seasoned travellers.

The benefits of being a "destination" resort like Puerto Vallarta, Cancun, or Acapulco is you get good airfare specials all year round. Of course you gotta deal with the Las Vegas type atmosphere. This includes the "all inclusive" packages, the huge crowds, busy boulevards, high rise hotels, and entertainment directors with megaphones inviting you to do 50 pushups, or sell you a 'time share'. This is certainly not the Puerto Escondido vacation.

So let's talk about getting to Casanuna without breaking the bank or wearing you out before you get here. There are two fairly large airports close by, Huatulco [HUX] and Puerto Escondido [PXM]. Flying is the easiest because Puerto is a tough 7 hour drive from either Acapulco or Oaxaca City. Huatulco gets direct flights from various cities in the United States. Puerto Escondido gets connecting flights on domestic jets that come from Mexico City [MEX]. You may save some bucks flying to Hualtulco, so check if your city if the savings are worth the hour and a half drive from HUX. If you do fly to Hualtulco there are various options the get to Casanuna. A taxi ride is $45 to $50 bucks for two people. A nice air-conditioned bus that stops regularly is about $5 bucks each. To catch a bus, you have a 200 meter walk to the highway with your bags. Another option for large groups is call or write us for van pickup at the airport parking lot for $75 bucks. Going to Puerto airport is the easiest and only 15 minutes away. Coming to PXM adds cost with the connecting flight from MEX. Call or write us for free pickup in the airport parking lot.

There are two parts to international travel you have to do....Immigration and Customs. Immigration checks who is coming in the country. Customs checks what you are bringing with you. When you land in MEX, there is an international airport and a domestic airport. Upon arrival you will be in the international side and have to go to the domestic side to catch your connecting flight to PXM. This is where you go through an easy immigration check point that allows you to enter Mexico and go on to your domestic terminal. There are plenty of screens with arrivals and departures that tell you where to go. English and Spanish speaking help is everywhere. Except for carryon luggage, which immigration will inspect, you should check your bags all the way through to PXM for customs. There are two reasons for this. First, because customs is easier in PXM. Unless you are staying overnight in Mexico City, claiming your baggage and then checking baggage again in an unfamiliar airport is a frustrating way to start a vacation. Second, there is a one bag limit on domestic flights. You pay for additional bags and they are expensive. Besides that, you will be paying porters or carrying them on a possible long walk to your departing terminal. Additional luggage is exempted for connecting flights so be sure to check bags to PXM if possible.

Convenience of your connecting flight can be frustrating if there is a long wait or possibly an overnight delay. You want to get to the beach, pool, or hammock as soon as possible, so Click airlines has added a morning flight on Tuesdays and Sundays. This is a tremendous time saver for those who arrive early or travelers from Europe. So check to see if this works for your itinerary. Also book well in advance to take advantage of low fares. Mexicana and other carriers regularly offer discounts and reduced fares. Fares can be pricey if you don’t shop for a bargain.

Hope this helps you get here relaxed and ready for fun.

Here are some UTUBE surf videos of Puerto. It gets 'gnarly'.
